Genitals and Urinary Tract
Genital and urinary tract issues in children encompass a range of conditions that affect the reproductive and urinary systems. These can include congenital anomalies, infections, and structural abnormalities. Common conditions include urinary tract infections (UTIs), vesicoureteral reflux (VUR), hydronephrosis, and genital anomalies such as hypospadias or undescended testicles. Symptoms can vary depending on the specific condition but may include pain or discomfort, urinary frequency or urgency, abnormal genitalia, or difficulty with urination. Treatment for these conditions often involves a combination of medications, surgery, and lifestyle modifications. It’s important for parents and caregivers to be aware of the signs and symptoms of genital and urinary tract issues in children and to seek prompt medical attention if they suspect a problem.Â
Common issues include urinary tract infections (UTIs), vesicoureteral reflux (VUR), hydronephrosis, and genital anomalies such as hypospadias or undescended testicles.
Symptoms may include frequent urination, pain or burning during urination, strong-smelling urine, cloudy or bloody urine, and abdominal or back pain.
UTIs are diagnosed through a urine test to check for bacteria and other signs of infection.
UTIs are usually treated with antibiotics. It’s important to complete the full course of medication as prescribed by a healthcare provider.
VUR is a condition where urine flows backward from the bladder into the ureters or kidneys, increasing the risk of kidney infections and other complications.
